Happy New Year, fellow dabblers! Every year is seen as a chance to reflect, start fresh, set new goals, and create new habits. With that in mind, I wanted to share my fitness favorites with you — my go-to workout guide, basic home equipment, and of course, fashionable fitness gear.

Explore Guides & Equipment

I’ve been doing Kayla Itsine’s Bikini Body Guide for years now, and I recommend it for those of all fitness levels. Whether you’re looking to simply rejuvenate your routine or begin a fitness journey with little space or equipment (hello, at-home workouts), this guide will help you achieve your goals. The 12-week program is designed to gradually build your endurance and strength, and burn fat along the way through HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) and cardio. By studying the various moves Kayla incorporates and the way her circuits are built to work different parts of the body, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge to create your own workouts after finishing the guide. All you need for the guide is a mat to cushion your moves on the floor, a set of dumbbells (I use 8 pounds.), a sturdy chair, and a mindset that you are strong and accountable.

In addition to completing the circuits, you should add 25-45 minutes of cardio to your workout. Depending on what’s available to you, this can anything from a power walk outdoors, a run on the treadmill, or cycling. My fiancé and I love our stationary bike, which we’ve set up as part of our home gym. I used to run a ton, but I find the bike is kinder to my knees and feet (goodbye blood and bubble blisters – ow and ew)!

Work Out In Style & Comfort

Moving onto style, you don’t need to dump your savings on Lulu Lemon, but it does help to have moisture-wicking workout clothing that you feel comfortable and confident in. Amazon, Walmart, Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls have trendy, budget-friendly, and quality pieces. It’s also important to support your feet with the right sneakers and socks to avoid injuries. Nike running sneakers, paired with cushioned / dri-fit socks, are my favorite because they’re fashionable, lightweight, and supportive. Now, onto how to tie your hair back and out of the way, I’ve totally soaked up the coil hair tie trend. Not only are they fun and colorful, but they are far superior to a typical hair elastic when it comes to hair breakage. Taking out your ponytail won’t result in parting ways with a chunk of your hair, so that’s definitely a bonus!

Music plays a major role in my workout too; I basically can’t workout without it. I’m in the process of creating custom Spotify playlists to share with you — exciting, right?! On the topic of beats, would you be interested in speaker and earbud recommendations?

Thank you to my friend Erika for requesting fitness guide insights as we aim to conquer 2021 with health and happiness!
