Happy fall y’all! Styling bohemian outfits is especially fun in the cooler months because you can use layers and accessories to elevate your look – think vests, faux fur, boots, game-changing hats, and unique stockings. Whether you’re looking to try out a new style, fine-tune your “aesthetic” (I cringe at the overuse of this word, so I only say it ironically), or play Alexis Rose for the day (Schitt’s Creek reference), here are three key elements you can incorporate into your wardrobe or OOTD that are guaranteed to help you achieve a boho-chic look.

Side note: If you haven’t watched Schitt’s Creek yet and you need a good stupid/funny show, I highly recommend you add it to your Netflix queue.

1. Stand-Out Sleeves

This peasant top offers flowy bohemian vibes through balloon sleeves, while still allowing for tailored shape through the smocked waist. Other sleeve types to consider for a billowy effect include bell, puff, and flutter.

2. Organic Kinship

A ditsy floral print top and faux fur handbag are just two examples of how to integrate organic elements into your outfit (Flowers = nature; animals = nature. And no, I did not kill a bear for my purse!). Other nature-inspired materials to add to your outfit could include leather, stone, and rattan. This could be in the form of boots, druzy gemstone earrings, or a summer handbag.

3. Eclectic Balance

Bohemian style is anything but matchy-matchy – it’s more like a collection of eclectic pieces. Mix and match patterns, textures, and articles that feel masculine or feminine. Mixing patterns can be tricky; the key is to consider scale and work within the same color scheme. The inside brim of my hat is decorated with Southwestern-inspired embroidery, while my top is floral. However, both pieces are tied together through the color black and the small size of the flowers permits the two patterns to intermingle.

Did you know I was a “Denim Expert” Sales Associate at American Eagle in high school? I still swear by their jeans. Pro-tip for denim care: turn your jeans inside out when you wash to maintain their color, and always hang dry to prevent shrinkage. The jeans I’m wearing are American Eagle’s ‘High-Rise Jegging’. The stretch factor is excellent, yet the material feels like real, thick denim. They’re four years old, and still fit like new.
